Blue Creek Flood Watch 2009

The state of Washington is in a flood watch. Here at our home we are also at a flood watch. We are grateful the first big snow melted before we got this last batch of snow and melt. The water is high and has come over the bank but we are still doing ok. We are praying that we won't flood. In 1996 we did flood. It is not something I want to do again. We did alot of preventative measures so we wouldn't.

Right before dusk yesterday we went on a walk and I took some pictures of the creek.

This area of the creek looks different today as you will see in a later photo.

This morning it was a bit higher.

It's starting to go over the bank.

As I was on the treadmill this morning I looked across the creek a poor deer had been washed down the creek and was trying for several minutes to climb up out of the creek on the steep rock wall. She kept sliding down and she would try try again. I became pretty emotional as I watched this deer try to save her own life. There was nothing I could do to help her without being swept down the creek myself. The deer got swept away a little farther down and right before the log jam (in the 3rd picture) it found footing and was able to crawl out. I felt so much relief. I'm just writing about it and I'm tearing up. I'm a sap. :)

The creek is getting higher this afternoon. It's warm and not raining so we think it's snow melt right now.

This picture was taken in the same spot that picture #4 was taken. The water is going over the bank here. In fact it went over last night or earlier today and we were unaware. We have puddles of water in the field.

This bridge is at the archery range down from our house. This log jam is being watched. We see men over there quite often. I hope the log jam doesn't break because then it would all come down to our house and get built up in the log jam right below our house. We don't want a log jam created.

Those who know "our" creek have seen the waterfall. You can't see much of a waterfall here can you?

We're doing ok. Praying and watching as we should.

I don't blame you for crying about the deer, I was tearing just reading about it. We are praying that your house doesn't flood!

I was wondering how it was going up there hearing about the flood warnings. I do remember the last time your house was so close to being flooded; Billie and I coming up to help you pack up to move out; that was a long time ago! Anyway, if it gets really bad and you need help; don't hesitate to call. I'll be glad to help in any way.
