A queen bee founded a new colony in one of our apple trees. Larry was mowing and passed under the apple tree a couple of times and he noticed a large dark object and looked up and there it was. He was spooked. It's a good thing honey bees don't swarm.
Our neighbors got bee hives this last summer and so we thought it may have been one of theirs. We called and they sent over the bee keeper to get it out of our tree. We thought about keeping it and moving the hive into a box but the keeper came and took the bees. He's holding the hive the bees made in the tree,
Frank our neighbor gave us a rack of honey out of their hives. It's got chewy wax honeycombs that you can eat with the honey. It's the best tasting honey I've ever eaten. Chewy wax and all.
Jovie is enjoying some honey.
We weren't sure if the bee keeper got the queen bee because the bees were coming back.
The worker bees were working so hard making another honeycomb. But alas after a couple of weeks the hive was deserted. The queen was gone and so the workers left behind left too.
Our property is a pathway for thousands upon thousands of ladybugs each year. Can you see the ladybugs flying in front of Jovie?
